Indiana Car Accident Roundup for October 2016

The month of October saw a number of people lose their lives on Indiana roads due to various factors such as overspeeding, distracted driving and failure to follow road rules.

Edinburgh Accident Kills Teen

On the 16th of October, 17-year-old Alyssia A. Christman of Edinburgh was killed when the car she was traveling in collided with a pick-up truck pulling a camper. Her friend, 19-year-old Austin D. Wade was driving.

The crash, which happened on Bartholomew County Roads 900 North and 350 East, located northwest of Hope resulted in the driver being taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment. He was later released with minor injuries. Initial investigations point to the fact that Wade changed direction while traveling west on County Road 900 North, choosing to go onto County Road 350 East instead. This put the car in the direct path of the truck.

Man Ejected From Vehicle in Jasper County Accident

In Jasper County, a Medaryville man lost his life after he was ejected from his car while traveling on I-65 on the 12th of October. The man, Mr. Zachary Vetter, 25, of Crown Point, southbound, attempted a stop at a rest area. Due to the speed at which he was traveling, he was unable to make a turn at the part of the road where a split exists to separate cars from semis. He ended up hitting a large sign on his side, breaking both of its poles and rolling down a ditch. The passenger, a Mr. Nicholas Vega, 26, was ejected from the vehicle, and his body was found near a parked semi nearby. He died at the scene, and his cause of death was due to massive blunt force trauma. It is alleged that he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Crawfordsville Accident Leads to Teen’s Death

In Crawfordsville, a high school student was killed when the vehicle he was traveling in was involved in a two-car crash with another vehicle. The accident, which occurred on the 13th of October, resulted in the death of 17-year-old Thomas Edwards, a Crawfordsville native. The teenager was driving a 1994 Toyota when he struck a 2010 Chevrolet driven by Kelly Kruse, with Michael Garret of Terre Haute as her passenger. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
